If the license plates say “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and commercials refer to “Land of Sky Blue Water”, you know that recreational boating will be big. And it is. Minnesota actually means cloudy water in the Sioux language, which referred to the expectedly not so clear Minnesota River that they lived alongside.
Minnesota boasts of having an international port for ocean vessels, and serves as the westernmost end of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The recreational boating in Lake Superior is seasonal, but exceptional.
